Putting people first — advocating for the rights of people with learning disabilities and autism
Advisory Team
People First Bridgend has a self-advocacy group called the Advisory Team.

A self-advocacy group is where people speak up about their rights or about a cause like equality.
Our advisory team is made up of people with learning disabilities from Bridgend County.
The Advisory Team speaks up about issues that affect people with learning disabilities, like the right to vote and what services they need from the council.

These issues can be about Bridgend, the Cwm Taf Morgannwg region or the whole of Wales.
People First Bridgend train the Advisory Team about self-advocacy and how to speak up for themselves.

This makes people feel more confident to use their voice and have more control in their lives.
People First Bridgend asks Advisory Team members to help train people about learning disability.
The Advisory Team makes sure that people with
learning disabilities have a say about how People First Bridgend is run and who it employs.
