Adam has been an active self-advocate for many years with the support of People First Bridgend.

Adam has supported local and regional development work, Easy-Read development, and participated in a wide range of awareness training.

Adam has also worked hard over the years to promote the work of People First Bridgend.

Adam says:

“People First means having my voice listened to. It is important that I help other people with a learning disability to speak up for themselves. And it is important to learn new things and new skills and to improve our lifestyles”.

With the support of People First Bridgend, Adam chairs Better Together Bridgend, our local service development group.

“It is an important job for me to listen to all the workstreams that have been going well and not so very well and giving people the time to say what they need and how we can improve. It makes me feel empowered and listened to. This is important for people with learning disabilities and autism.”

Adam’s house manager says: “Adam’s really enjoying leading, open discussions and contributing. We have noticed a difference in his social skills and he’s really thriving”.

Adam’s support worker says: “It definitely gives Adam more confidence to speak in front of other people”
